Ceramic and Synthetic Hair
About:
Through the use of ceramics and sculpting, Murjoni Merriweather has found a way to talk about black culture and highlight black features in a positive light. The European beauty standard has dominated what is deemed pretty and not pretty for centuries. As a student from MICA, Murjoni wanted to destroy the Euro beauty standard that is known to paint black features in a negative light. In hopes to encourage and uplift black people, she has taken inspiration from real black people, and sculpts them through the use of clay and synthetic hair, in order to normalize black features and change our perception of the beauty standard.
